Job description I. SummaryEMR USA has an opening for a Welder in New Orleans, LA. In this role, the Welder will conduct repairs on the shredder and other yard equipment. To be successful, the Welder must be able to work independently to accomplish daily tasks. Ultimately, an outstanding Welder will understand the properties of different metals and how to work with them. . II. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssesses equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methodsSet up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be weldedAlign components using callipers, rulers etc. and clamp piecesWeld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)Trims metal components using heat, fire, and electricityRepair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gapsTest and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flawsMaintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safetyUses electricity and torches to produce heat and solder together components made from steel, titanium, copper, and other metalsMonitors equipment for appropriate usage and temperatureMaintains a thorough knowledge of universal standards and specifications in order to meet building codes and legal requirementsMonitors work environment for hazards and maintains healthy ventilation levels to avoid particle or gas inhalationFollows safety protocol, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes. III. Required Skills / AbilitiesExperience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.)Mechanical inclination or a thorough understanding of heavy machinery. Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, callipers etc.)Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawingsKnowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)Deftness and attention to detailRelevant welder or welding fabricator certificationsKnowledge of chemistry and metallurgyUnderstanding of electricityAttention to detail IV. Education & ExperienceHigh School graduate or G.E.D. Previous welding experience V. Other Job DemandsWhile performing the essential functions of this job, the Welder will be working in an outdoor environment. The employee may be near moving mechanical parts and will be exposed to all weather conditions. The noise level in the environment can be loud and will require ear protection. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. This job also requires frequent bending, kneeling, and standing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in confined spaces.#LI-onsite
